Al-Ittihad Saudi Club, known as “Al-Ameed”, is the oldest sports club in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, having been founded on December 26, 1927 in Jeddah. The club was founded after a meeting between a number of prominent football fans in Jeddah, including Hamza Fitaihi, Abdul Samad Najib Al-Saadi, Ismail Zahran, Ali Yamani, and Abdul Aziz Jameel, with the aim of creating a team that would unite them and represent the city.
Since its founding, Al-Ittihad has spent its entire history in the top division of the Saudi Professional League. The club is considered one of the most successful clubs on both the local and continental levels, having won many championships, including:
Saudi Professional League: 9 times.
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Cup: 9 times.
Saudi Crown Prince Cup: 8 times.
AFC Champions League: 2 times in a row.
Al-Ittihad is one of the only three Asian clubs to have won the AFC Champions League twice in a row.
The team plays its matches at the King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, which has a capacity of 60,000 spectators. The club is known for its passionate and supportive fans, and its traditional rival is Al Hilal, with matches between them known as the “Saudi Classico”.
In June 2023, Al Ittihad was transformed into a company owned 75% by the Public Investment Fund, with the establishment of an investment fund for the company with the aim of achieving sustainable returns.
Al Ittihad continues to write its history full of achievements, maintaining its position as one of the most prominent clubs in the Kingdom and the region.
